Key Highlights

Renowned Japanese Producer

Yamazaki is one of the top whisky makers in the world. In 2010, it was awarded both 1st and 3rd place awards for being the top whiskies in the world, and has since been a perennial-award winner for being one of the top distilleries in the business.

Rare 25-Year Release

This collection features three bottles from the 2021 release of a 25-year-old. It features the first release of a new blend featuring whisky aged in Mizunara (native Japanese oak), American, and Sherry casks, rather than Sherry alone. This new blend is meant to pay homage to the 1984 bottling that won its inaugural award in 2010 and to bring the 25-year-old more in line stylistically with the 12 and 18-year-old which both see time in Mizunara casks.

Japanese Whisky Is On Fire

The Rare Whisky 101 Japanese 100 Index is up nearly 580% since its inception at the end of 2014, while the RW Yamazaki index is up over 40% in the last 12 months.

Collection Description

Yamazaki is considered by some to be the pinnacle of Japanese whisky. The distillery put Japanese whisky on the map when it won the top whisky in the world award in 2010. Ever since, its whiskies have been highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike. As the most-searched-for Japanese whisky on Wine Searcher, with the top two most expensive whiskies in the world, Yamazaki has demonstrated strong demand and pricing power.

The 2021 release of the 25-year-old Yamazaki whisky features a new blend that includes whisky aged in Mizunara, American, and sherry casks. This blend pays homage to the 1984 bottling that won its inaugural award in 2010 and brings the 25 year old more in line stylistically with the 12 and 18-year-old Yamazaki whiskies, which also see time in Mizunara casks. This new blend is likely to appeal to collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate the use of native Japanese oak and the complexity it brings to the whisky.

The collection offered is priced 23% below the Vint estimated fair market value for the bottles. This discount provides investors with an opportunity to acquire these bottles at a lower cost than the market value, potentially generating higher returns in the future as demand and prices for Yamazaki whiskies continue to rise. As a subsector, Japanese whiskies have been performing exceptionally well against the broader market. The Rare Whisky 101 Japanese Whisky Index saw gains of 11.75% in 2022.

Investing in the Yamazaki is another compelling opportunity for investors who are seeking exposure to the high-end Japanese whisky market. With its reputation as one of the top distilleries in the world, the use of native Japanese oak in its whiskies, and the discount to estimated fair market value, the Yamazaki 25-year old collection offers investors a potentially attractive return on investment over the long term.
